Autumn (?) is coming

During the last couple of weeks, the searing grip of summer has been loosening. The humidity is now below 50% on a regular basis, and we can begin to see the sky without its perpetual haze.

Although the day time temperature is still reaching 40C, we will soon reach the first day in over 3 months when it drops below 38C (100F) and the winter season can be anticipated.

One of the first signs of summer's end is the return of flies and other insects. They retreat/hibernate in the summer which is one of the few summer benefits here.
The next sign is the return of the predators, as I caught a glimpse of one on my Jeep antenna.

The Painted Dragonfly loooves that picture. Glad the weather is, hm, cooling down? For you. Has it been hard to aclimitize?

Our furnace went on for the first time today, because it was 38F outside. I like going out with 3 layers of clothing on. Lots of flies, bees and spiders trying to get indoors for the winter...

Um...how cold does it get eventually (specifically in Autumn and "Winter")?

I shall certainly revisit these photos when the wind off the lake piles snow high around the cottage. No wait, forget that snow thing. Just the thought of it has me scambling for reservations to a warmer spot.

It will average in the twenties in the winter, maybe dipping into the single digits at night.
The mountains (2000 meters) have had a dusting of snow several years ago, but very rare.
Winter here would be like a Canadian summer. The stores roll out the camping gear, etc.
