Snoopy Island

The sun dawned on another bright and sunny day and a short 60 minute drive puts us on the Indian Ocean (Gulf of Oman), at our favourite snorkelling spot, Snoopy Island.

After the sunrise the guests of the local hotel, Sandy Beach, emerge to enjoy the unique Snoopy-shaped island that is also a beautiful marine preserve.

The underwater photos are courtesy of diving friends but are not enough to do justice to the beauty below.

We were swarmed with all types including tiny wraithes, parrot fish, grouper, barracuda (small), mullet, yellow discus, puffers and many others we could not identify.

Afterward we "roughed" it on the beach, ordering our beverages and sandwiches as we relaxed in the breeze.

If you ever need a break, this place is highly recommended. A quaint mixture of motel rooms and bungaloes on the beach.

Charger - Reprise

What has become an annual event, I have to replace my vehicle as I change contracts. Not a bad deal but still something to do.
(See last year's post
http://adventuresinsandland.blogspot.com/2006/07/charger.html)

We went to the Chrysler dealer in Sharjah to leave my Jeep for an inspection and then test some cars. Since we had to leave the Jeep overnight they offered us a demo unit so SLS pressured me to take the new Charger.

A quick run up the highway back to Ras Al Khaimah, but we kept it under 200 kmh between the new radar cameras.

Then SLS enjoyed driving it around the next day before it was returned.

SLS loves this car.

May Day, Changes, Getting Hotter

To all my working friends in Europe and other places, have a good Workers Day holiday. Here we celebrate by just working, but next year they propose to celebrate May 1 too.

I am now working in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi, most of the time. I represent a Canadian company from Newfoundland, Cathexis, and are doing a project with a group called CERT here.

It covers RFID, Bluetooth and telematics. Good tech areas that I like.

Here are the links for those interested.

Abu Dhabi is a beautiful city and much more relaxed than Dubai.

It is about 250 km south of Ras Al Khaimah so a bit far for a daily commute. So as many do I book a room in a villa and work it out.

If funds were no problem I would stay at the Emirates Palace Hotel. A top hotel to rival the Burj Al Arab. Rooms start at $550 USD and range up to $13000 USD per night.

For now I just take photos.

The summer is giving us early warning (more than usual) and it is up to 43C (109F) today, and the humidity is starting to build. Oh well, our reverse winter.

And for something different, my niece has photoshopped me into Ontario.
